According to the Forbes list of Fast Tech 25: their annual list of growth kings, the current champion is LinkedIn. Its revenue rose 115% over the last 12 months and is accelerating. Its shares are up 144% since its IPO a year ago. Apple came in second, which they noted was a significant feat for a company of its size. I have always been a fan of Apple products. I bought my first Apple stock in 1982, and unfortunately sold it 6 months later, thinking that tripling my money was good thing. I would likely have untold richness if I still had that stock.
I was always a reluctant participant in LinkedIn. I would accept friends at first but not reach out. Later they added features that made it easier to find real friends to connect to and I got more involved. But I still mainly use it as an occasional broadcast channel and have joined some discussion groups. Of course, I also keep my profile up to date. As they got more social they got more useful and successful. Here is just another example of the power of putting social capabilities into business tools.
I can't believe LinkedIn managed to leave a dent like that - even though there are many more applications which fulfil its purpose better than it can.
