thanks for the wonderful pics, I would like some local knowledge. We are visiting Turkey in Sept /Oct.from Australia and want to visit Samos for a few days, are there buses still running on the island or hire cars available? I read a blog last year and it sounded as though the whole island was in dire straits and roads infrastructure in disrepair, no taxis etc, I would think they would be very keen for every cent they could get. We would get the ferry from Kusadarsi turkey. Will keep reading your blog. May I use your photos as reference for my paintings?

The main roads are fine I have been traveling all around the island in a rentai car which is easy to get at the airport. I used National. I highly recommend coming. The island is beautiful and the people are very friendly. There is much to do here, beaches, good food, nice harbors, mountains, and historic sights. If you want to go on a four wheel drive tour into the mountainous interior, which is also beautiful, I recommend you should contact George Matteau at: geom32@hotmail.com. He is working on promoting alternative tourism on Samos and will take very good care of you. The weather will still be good when you come but September will be better than October. Look at my art blog http://billives.typepad.com/art_and_photography_blog/ for description of one of my jeep tours.

Chris my art blog is running my photos from the island exclusively now while this one just does it on the weekends so you will see more sooner if you follow the art blog. http://billives.typepad.com/art_and_photography_blog/
