Recently the PPC blog posted an useful diagram giving their take on How Google Works: in Gory Detail. It is interesting that they choose to
display the information in a visual that does not have searchable text like a
traditional blog post. Where they
trying to hide their content from Google?
They do say that Google is very secretive about their data centers.
Gavin Heaton who writes the Servant of Chaos blog wrote a nice commentary on the PPC work on MyVenturePad, which he titles The Scary Truth About Search. He notes the major search optimization that many sites use and then concludes with the thought that web sites need to think about what happens when you “throw “social” into the mix and see how you stack up. Scared? You should be.” Google Page Rank was created before social media. Has this social media compromised Google’s approach?
To be honest, I think pagerank created the conditions for social media/sites to thrive. In the process it has created challenges to Google which they are now scrambling to address. Makes for interesting times!
