I went back to the Onset Blues Festival for the fifth straight time in August. It has become an essential part of summer for me. This year I saw the last three acts and they were all great in their own way. The appear in order below. First, there was Gil Correria, the MC, with his band, The Blue Gil Band. They are local perform very solid Chicago style blues. Catch them if they appear near you. Gil is on the left in the first photo
The next band, The Gas House Gorillas, is featured in most of the pictures below as they had a lot of fun and provided a lot of fun, mixing it up with audience. I talked with sax guy afterwards who said they enjoyed themselves. Note the gradual changes in the lead singer.
The headliners was Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters. Ronnie is one of the legends of blues guitar and he put on a great show. It was all instrumental and bordered on jazz, which the audience, myself, included really loved. For one number, he even got into the audience. If you click on a picture it will enlarge
