This begins an 18 part series over the next few months of
images of New Orleans neighborhoods taken in February 2010 the weekend before
the Super Bowl victory and two weeks for Mardi Gras. I certainly did not have
time to cover them all but this series will provide a glimpse of the city that
I hope you will want to visit.
I am starting with the most
well known tourist area, the part of the French Quarter near Canal Street and
the river. It includes the party
sections of Bourbon Street, the upscale shopping areas of Royal and Chartres,
and the mix of shopping and eating on Decatur. Well known places seen below include Arnaud's, Pat O'Brien's, Galatorie's, Acme Oyster House, and Johnny's Po-Boys. These were mostly taken on a
Sunday afternoon. There are street musicians, restaurants, stores, and much
more I did not record. On the same day I also recorded the Men in Dresses Celebrate the New Orleans Saints
Going to the Super Bowl which occurred in the upper French Quarter, the most public part of town. That series will give you more of a sense of the partying crowds on Bourbon Street. The last eight are from an earlier trip in April 2006.
When I was a kid, my parents would take out-of-towners to Valenti's Paddock Lounge for live jazz. It has been a while since it was open for jazz. I usually got to go and there was a circular bar with the band in the middle. Octave Crosby and Ogden an Clem Tervalon played in the 1950's and the shows went all night so it was a favorite after hours bar. It was changed to a burlesque by new owner Lulu White in the 1980s.
The picture from inside Jackson Square of the St. Louis Cathedral and the Cabildo is a knock out!

I've spent a couple of months in New-Orleans for a client who's entire Database has been corrupted. Cutting a long story short, on the evenings i went on walks, and i have to say, it's beautiful over there.
