Here is a great visualization effort by the Flowing Data people. You can see how Walmart, like kudzu on the left , spread across the US South. It started in 1964 and first invaded the South. Then it passed the kudzu limits during the 1980s to spread across the rest of the country. It is a bit scary. I wonder what the Starbucks story would look like. I found this through the PSFK people. Kudzu image is from the Wikipedia.
