Some one asked me if there was any video for the Newport Jazz festival that went Rock. I wrote a piece on it, The Original Newport Jazz Festival: 1969 – 1971, and I think I get more comments on this post that any other, so much for business content. Well I did not find any but there was an audio of Jimi Hendrix doing Like a Rolling Stone at a Newport festival in California. This discovery led to the video of Jimi Hendrix at Monterey Pop Doing Like a Rolling Stone. Here is the Bob Dylan 1966 version.
All this led to a mislabeled fake Jimi Hendrix doing Red House with a fake Janis Joplin and a fake Jim Morrison. Despite the mislabeling they were still doing a good tribute. The fake Jim sounded a more like Country Joe but he did not look like him. He was more like Morrison than the other two looked like their characters. Most comments expressed dislike, or even disgust, with the mislabeling but it was labeled rock opera at the start. I saw it as an entertaining representation of what might have been and it did seem to be somewhat contemporary with a 70s feel. I looked a bit further and found some much worse mislabeling that was simply deceptive promotion.
Now to close with the real Muddy Waters doing Long Distance Call, “when I hear your voice you know it ease my worried mind.”
