I wrote about the ProgrammableWeb site back in March 2006. It had listed 20 mapping applications with open APIs and 379 mashups using these applications. For example, there is 1001 Secret Fishing Holes – “Over a thousand fishing spots in national parks, wildlife refuges, lakes, campgrounds, historic trails etc.” I checked it out and it really works.
Both the fishing holes and the ProgrammableWeb are still going strong. The ProgrammableWeb now lists 2082 mashups and 466 APIs. A few days ago Facebook Answers was the mashup of the day. “Ask questions and get quick answers from your Facebook friends. Answer questions and earn points. See how you rank against other Facebook experts.” There is a nice section on How To Make Your Own Web Mashup. Thanks to John Maloney for reminding me of this site. They also have a ProgrammableWeb blog. web 2.0
