I recently returned to Jackson Wyoming to visit my daughter who works for Alpinist Magazine. We ried some new places and I think the food has improved. The three dinner spots were better than any of the Jackson places experienced on the last trip.
Dinner:
Old Yellowstone Garage - OYG is an Italian place specializing in Genovese and Piemontese food that is excellent for any town. I would rate it a close second to Trio but would also be very happy to return many times. I had fresh marinated calamari. We also had a brown butter sage gnocchi. Their antipasti looked very tempting. OYG is likely the place that collects the most awards in town. It is located at 175 Center Street – 307-734-6161
Trio was the best of the bunch, even though the others were quite good. It has “American bistro” food in a nice décor. I had crab and shrimp bisque followed by Idaho trout nicely done with blackened corn. Like the OYG, it has wood oven pizza. It is located at 45 S. Glenwood 307-734-8038.
Rendezvous Bistro provides comfort bistro food. I had a nice duck confit with bacon and onion spaetzle. They also allowed a substitute for the other side so I could get the chipolte corn. My daughter always gets the venison. It is on the west side next to Albertson’s on Broadway – 307-739-1100.
Lunch:
The Granary – is supposed to have the best bison burgers in Jackson and a hill top view of the Teton range. We had lunch and the burgers were huge and good, more flavorful than most beef burgers. The view is also the best for a place to eat so it is a good place to start when you first arrive.. It is located in the Spring Creek Resort on top on the East Gros Ventre Butte – 307-733-8833
Dornan’s is located right outside the park so it is a favorite of climbers on the way back from the Tetons. It is only place before town. My daughter, who is a climber, often does this. This time we were coming back from a canoe trip. I was just expecting a good view but we had great pizza on the roof looking back at the Teton range. 307-733-2415
For breakfast we went back to the Bunnery (800-349-0492 – 130 N. Cache) and Shades (307-733-2015 – 75 S. King Street). They were just as good as before and highly recommended. Both have excellent egg dishes. The Bunnery also has excellent bakery for take out.
