My friend Cesar Brea sent me a link to a post he did on graphing connections through tracking taging. It is worth a separate post – see tomorrow. But in his post was a link to a nice demo of using mashups to create a desktop portal. The demo is created by Solution Grove. They describe themselves as providing “Knowledge Management for Learning Communities.” Check out the demo.
Once I saw the idea I said but of course, why I did not think of this. It is a great idea. What would you want on your mashup portal?
IBM has done something somewhat similar through their QED wiki. According to CNet News: “The idea behind QEDwiki, which stands for quick and easily done wiki, is that businesspeople can create their own Web pages by dragging and dropping components onto a pallet, Smith said.” It lets people assemble Web applications using wikis, really simple syndication (RSS) and simple Web scripting.”
QED Wiki was developed by IBM to extend wiki functionality. It has a drag and drop capability for creating mashups than combine information from multiple sources on the wiki page. For example, I saw a demo of how a national hardware store chain could create situational applications based on weather conditions that effect sales and inventory needs. In this case, data from the National Weather Service and Google Maps allowed managers to quickly see the weather conditions of different stores within the chain and better plan inventory adjustments. This planning can then occur within the same wiki page using its collaborative capabilities.
I think that composite applications (aka mashups) show great promise. enterprise 2.0
Biii, FYI, there are QWDWiki demo availbale at

(2)QEDwiki ACORD Demo (insurance demo)

There is now a QEDwiki ACORD demo available on You Tube. IBM has been recently working on projects related to situational applications and application wikis.
An Application Wiki enables non-technical users to rapidly design their own means of interaction with data or business services. QEDwiki is IBM's application wiki framework for collaboration, and situational dynamic content development.
