For once I am talking about art during the week due to timing. The Cambridge Art Association (CAA) is hosting a new exhibit that opens today, November 16. It is titled Blue: “more than a color: a metaphor, feeling, idea, or a hue.” The show was juried by Carole Anne Meehan of Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, Vita Brevis program.
I recently joined the CAA and have a drawing in this exhibit, titled Sleep. See below for an image. Here is a list of the participating artists. The exhibit runs from November 16 to January 4. It will be at two locations, Kathryn Schultz Gallery: 25 Lowell St. Cambridge MA. 02138 Hours 11am to 5pm Tues. through Saturday (617 876 0246) and University Place Gallery: 124 Mt. Auburn St. Cambridge 02138 Hours Mon. through Fri. 9am to 6pm Sat. 9am to 1pm. My drawing is shown at the Kathryn Schultz Gallery. If you click on the image you get a slightly larger version in a pop up window. The reception runs from 6 – 8 PM this November 17 at both galleries.
The drawing below is part of a series of drawings of comfortable places in my home and those of my friends. It includes couches, beds, and other spots. They are all done as simple contour drawings. The goal of this series is to use a minimum of line to convey volume and presence. I plan to start an art blog soon to show a few more, along with photos and paintings.
