I have been looking into web sites related to food in Europe. There are many different types of food sites. I found it best to look at them by country so here is a four part series beginning with Italy.
About.com – Italian Cusine – This is an independent site maintained by Kyle Phillips, who resides in Florence, Italy, where he works as a translator, food and travel writer, and photographer.
Barilla US
The website of this Italian manufacturer of pasta offers a database of recipes that you can search and browse by type of pasta, by season or by region.
La Cucina Italiana Online
I used to subscribe to the magazine and it is very good. The site offers Italian and English editions. It includes a daily recipe in English and a Regional Food Archive.
Divina Cucina
This Italian cooking school in Florence, Italy, has a selection of recipes on their website, including panforte, Bollito Misto, Polpettone di Patate (potato meatloaf), and Pappa al Pomodoro (tomato mush).
DolceVita: Wine & Cuisine
This Italian site in English offers a wide variety of information on Italian food products, including recipes. Check out their user's guide to rice (for risotto and other things). It even includes a section by Marcella Hazan and a Dictionary of Regional Delicacies.
Epicurious: A Culinary Tour of Italy
From the publishers of Bon Appetit and Gourmet.
Italian Food Forever
A website with recipes and articles about Italian food traditions, maintained by Deborah Mele.
Italian Made
This promotional website by the Italian Trade Commission offers a lot of information about foods and wines from the distinct regions of Italy.
Made-in-Italy: Wine & Food
This website contains a good overview of Italian regional food with an introduction by Marcella Hazan. Her cook book is a classic and I have it.
