Here is a great use of Myspace by someone not still in college. Stan Garfield is the Worldwide Consulting & Integration Knowledge Management Leader at Hewlett-Packard. We have been talking for some time and we finally meet in person at the recent KM Cluster meeting in Cleveland. Among other topics, Stan told me about his in-house music concerts and his use of Myspace for a Garfield House Concerts blog to promote these events and share his thoughts on music. He makes use of the Myspace friends feature to include his favorite musicians. There were 126 when I checked.
Stan started his house concerts when his daughters wanted to go to a town several hours away to hear one of their favorites. Instead, Stan called the artist up and said if you have an open date on either side of this concert, he will host a concert in his home, Stan told him that he will get the gate and be able to sell his CDs so the artist agreed, this launched Garfield House Concerts and Stan now does two concerts a year. The Myspace blog followed. Check it out. It is interesting for many reason, First the content, but also for Stan’s creative use of the Myspace format. There is also stuff on the Michigan music scene and a discussion forum on the house concerts.
Here is a link to Stan's music blog which has a lot of useful links and information on the Michigan music scene. Hs brother David, is a musician and here is a link to David Garfield's site. This site has Stan's favorite folk artists with links to more about them.
