I recently installed Google Adsense on my blog as an experiment. They are supposed to provide targeted ads and so far it seems to work for the most part (see left column). I actually have found several to be useful myself. I tried one on knowledge management and found Better Management.com which offers “visionary perspectives for management insights.” I have no financial stake in this company except that they have now advertised on my site and never heard of them before their ad appeared.
The BetterManagement site says it “provides articles, webcasts, and conferences addressing Performance Management, Financial Management, Business Intelligence, IT management, and other critical business management issues.” Topics include business intelligence and under that three sub-topics: analysis and reporting, data management, and knowledge management.
So I looked at their list of articles and found a number of good ones that I could read for free. I am sure there are valued a services that cost money. For example, there was one Knowing Your Knowledge: KM and Process Mapping by Lee Simmons at APQC (American Productivity & Quality Center). I have reviewed some of their reports, such as Integrating Knowledge Management and Organizational Learning, in the past and helped Farida Hasanali start her APQC Knowledge Management blog.
The article describes the process of develop a map of an organization knoweldeg assets. It includes three components:: the skill/expertise overview, the expertise locator, and the document/artifact examination. It says that an organization can use a knowledge map for a number of purposes including: “looking for pockets or gaps of expertise. It may also use a map to identify subject matter experts within strategic areas of its business. A map can also be used to look explicitly at business processes to determine what knowledge exists within the company and what is needed to be gained.”
There is more but try my advertiser, Better Management.com, or go to the APQC site. I also saw an ad for Babson's knowledge management degree program which is very appropriate and also has some great faculty, including Tom Davenport. I am giving you the direct links but if you see the ads up on the left column and you are interested try my adsense link. I also see that the ads tend to change frequently in some cases. If you want to try Google Adsense yourself click on the button under Try Google Adsense in the left column. As a disclaimer, if you make money, it will also help my blog.
