Here is an interesting article, Blogging Through The Ages, on blogging about old people, like me, and those in this group who blog or elderblogs. I found this through looking at Jeff Henning’s blog that was recommended to me by Art Hutchinson who writes the blog, Mapping Strategy. It is fun to find the unexpected when going through a series of threads.
A sample of the article: “I see that some are highly personal musings, like traditional journals, that focus on the bitter, the sweet and the practical aspects of growing older. Some are digests devoted to the science of aging -- and to medical measures to forestall the process. Some are forward-looking; some, nostalgic. Some are offshoots of other entities: A Web site geared toward the 40-and-up crowd features a blog where such folks can swap stories; a site hosting blogs of all kinds includes the occasional older-person blog. Some are magnets for midlife online commerce.”
Some of the elderblogs the author found include:
Bifocal News - Bifocal News is a daily blog about growing older. We keep our eye on those matters that affect our health, finances, and spiritual well-being. Please send items of interest to [email protected].
Longevity Science which has received over 100,000 visitors. I should change my blog title.
Aging Hipsters - Covering issues on the Boomer Generation including original Boomer content, bulletin boards, user comments, Sixties and Seventies music, Baby Boomer culture, health and coverage of issues for "Aging Hipsters."
Boomer Reflections – who welcomes all comments and says he is pretty mellow about most things.
As Time Goes By – with a nice series of photos of the author throughout her life.
I will add two more: Legacy Matters™ and Business of Life™ by Jill Fallon who is one of the cases in our book, Business Blogs: A Practical Guide. Legacy Matters addresses legacy in a broad context including not just financial and legal planning, but also good records, good directions and creating personal and family legacy archives. The Business of Life™ blog provides an organizing framework and tools for individuals to organize the business of their lives and keep their affairs in order especially through major life changes.
Bill, Since I'm in the last throughs of finishing my book, I've been slow in blogging and even slower in reading my regular blogs. Thanks a lot for the mention. Big news coming soon.
