Thanks to Susan Bradley, the SBS Diva of E-Bitz, for pointing me back to another visit to Microsoft’s Windows Small Business Server (SBS) Community site to see how they have re-done their blog listing. This list is to help people find blogs related to SBS issues. When I first went to the site at the beginning of October, the listed blogs were all Microsoft employees, Many had just started so the coverage was not deep.
Apparently, Microsoft realized that this listing needed to be improved, partly on their own and partly through feedback from Susan. Now they list a mix of Microsoft employees and non-Microsoft employees who have been participating in this community for some time. A number of those external to Microsoft, like Susan, have been blogging for some time and have a well stocked archive of relevant posts. On the list on October 18, six of the nine are not Microsoft employees.
Many, like Susan, are also part of the MVP effort (Most Valuable Professional) that is external to Microsoft but supports users of their products. She pointed me to a site maintained by this group which hosts a large number of blogs on different Microsoft related topics and also links to others outside this site. Topics include security, content management, digital rights management, MSN client, Sharepoint, Small Business Server, various Windows topics, and many more.
Here are some examples of the MVP blogs.
Jerry’s Security Weblog – provides much information on Microsoft security issues.
Rod Trent: Notes from the Ether – part of TechTarget, an IT media and events company. Rod’s blog also covers security issues.
Security Manifest – Benjamin Johnstone-Anderson – one of the youngest of the MVP bloggers who is around 15. His posts are very comprehensive.
Christian Hougardy – a Windows XP expert who writes in French and makes nice use of graphics.
