The weekend series on restaurant picks continues. Here John Maloney of KM Cluster and Colabria offers selections for Geneva where he spent a number of years on assignment for a former employer. Earlier, he provided a three part series on his home town, San Francisco, which was posted over the US Labor Day weekend. If you move on to German speaking Switzerland, recommendations for Zurich can be found in this post of selections from Peter Gloor.
Domaine de Châteauvieux. I've been here countless times. I used to hold my offsites here. Besides an exceptional dining experience, it is a great place to stay too. It is always No. 1 for dining in the city and all-around best restaurant in Geneva by far. It is set in a 15th-century stone farmhouse within a vineyard in the countryside in Satigny. Lunch is superbe; dinner sublime. It is about 15 minutes from town. Set aside a few hours+. It is located at Peney-Dessus Satigny 41-22-753-1511
Café du Soleil -- fun, active and exciting – absolutely, the best local scene and fondue. Its site claims it is “possibly the oldest restaurant in Geneva and probably the best fondue in Switzerland!” It is located at Place du Petit-Saconnex /Genève tél +41 (0) 22 733 34 17.
La Taverne du Valais. Créatrice de la Charbonnade. It has the best charbonnade on earth. (Note: all meat, no exceptions.) Very entertaining. It is located at 4 ch. des Sellières. 1219 Aïre - Le Lignon. Genève. Tél. 022 796 23 23. Fax 022 797 26 75.
Restaurant le Milan - It is my favorite for simply Italian. Excellent local, downtown scene. Great ravioli en brodo. It is located at 9, Rue Chaponnière - 1201 Genève - Tel. : +(41)2 27 32 46 65 Fax : +(41)2 27 32 12 88
The NY Times travel section had a story on Sunday September 19 by Natasha Burley on Geneva (I couldn’t find the link) that had several tempting additions.
Chez Ma Cuisine On y Manage du Poulet – (literally at my cousins house we eat chicken) – They serve only one dish – a tender roasted half chicken with salad and a pile of fires for $11. It faces the Palais de Justice.
Au Coin du Bar – aromatic bar with only ten seats (20 more in the basement) near the Jardin Anglais, a lakeside park. The menu only contains daily specials. It is located at 17 rue Versonnex 1207 Genève Tel: (022) 786 38 19
