John Maloney pointed me to the San Francisco Blues Festival and I have been reading about my local version in Boston. The San Francisco version is September 25-26, 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM each day in Great Meadow, Fort Mason, San Francisco. It clearly trumps Boston on the basis of talent with Buddy Guy, Santana, Marcia Ball (New Orleans blues singer), Charlie Musselwhite, and many more with Johnny Nitro and the Doorslammers leading off on Saturday morning. Here is a link to their descriptions. It is $40 for the two day ticket, $25 a day.
Boston Blues Festival is September 25-26, 12:00 AM - 6:00 PM each day at the Hatch Shell on the Charles River. Boston trumps on price since it is free. The Porch Rockers lead off on Saturday. Headliners include Carey Bell on Saturday and Lil Joe Washington on Sunday.
So come to one of the coasts this weekend for some blues. If you are cheap come to Boston.
