Here is a blog on jazz. Vince provided some useful additions to my blog posts on jazz ballads. He adds, “Duke Ellington's "Ellington Indigos" into a list of my favorites in this "entire CD of ballads" category and while we are still thinking of Basie the day after his 100th Bday, a favorite from that band is Neal Hefti's "Girl Talk". I wonder if there is a Billy Strayhorn ballad disc that has "Lush Life" on it, because it's another one of my favorite ballad singles (but we've have to find something with the lyrics, because I they, to me, are so intertwined with that gorgeous tune).”
I found out from the Billy Strayhorn site that “Joe Henderson won a Grammy Award and world wide acclaim for his CD, 'Lush Life'. Strayhorn wrote the title composition for this CD while still a teenager in Pittsburgh.”
I feel an on-line order coming on. Good suggest about ballads with lyrics. I have many favorites here, too, including Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Pascale Lavoie, Diana Krall, and many, many more. This will require some thought.
