While states like North Carolina and Texas argue over where the best BBQ is located, there is another state that is a worthy contender. This is Oklahoma. Here is link to one of the best there in Norman, Oklahoma. I have spent a lot of time in Norman as I had family there. I have had a lot of the local ‘cue. Stillwater is another great place. My uncle, James Fleming, worked for Oklahoma State University, located there. He was known for years for serving great barbecue to the sports writers at OSU football games.
The site links to a story about “a daring daylight robbery, thieves stole the custom-made suit and gigantic, foam-rubber pig’s head that gave life to “Bobby the Pig,” beloved mascot of World Famous Bob’s BBQ of Ada. Valued at over $1,000, the pig suit was in a large blue duffel bag in the back of owner Doug Kennon’s truck, parked in front of a Bricktown restaurant at 4:30 on Saturday afternoon.”
I agree with you about Oklahoma BBQ, but have to disagree about Bob's. I'm a big fans of Van's BBQ here in Norman, and find their brisket, hot links and sauce to be one of the best in town. I'm underwhelmed by Bobs every time I visit.
A rule of thumb for good BBQ is to find the trailers sitting in parking lots, every so often you can find these to be the best around.
Cheers,
Mike
