Amanda Watlington introduced me to an interesting blog on the business use of blogs and to Bill Gates' new stance on blogs. Business Blog Consulting is “a site devoted to demonstrating how effective weblogs can be for communicating with customers and marketing to new customer prospects. You will find here lots of examples of business blogs, as well as resources to help you learn more about the topic.” This site is maintained by Rick E. Bruner, a consultant.
Rick mentioned that at the recent Microsoft CEO Summit 2004, a conference for CEOs, Gates raved about blogs and product-oriented communities. To go directly to Bill’s own words find the complete text of his speech at Microsoft’s Bill Gates Home Page. Rick also provides a link to the BBC’s assessment of Bill’s speech. The BBC noted that Bill said blogs have advantages over other ways of communicating such as e-mail and websites and that more than 700 Microsoft employees are already using blogs to keep people up to date with their projects.
