The town of Hamden CT, home to many early Ives such as Jonathan and Jeremiah, was named after john Hamden, the English statesman and cousin of Oliver Cromwell, who was killed in a battle of the civil war. He was a popular hero of the Puritan founders of the New Haven Colony, the forebears of the majority of Hamden residents in 1786. Picture and information from the Hamden Historical Society site.
