S. A. Ives and his family are listed in the 1900 US census for Pinebluff, NC. He is listed as a clergyman, home owner, free of mortgage, married 18 years, with other details consistent with information in Vols. 2 and 3 of this book. Alice Dunbar Ives is listed, as Mrs. S. A. Ives, as Corresponding Agent for the Board of Trade, Pinebluff, NC 1903, 1904. His cousin Ellen Ives from Holyoke (see Vol. 2) contributed to the support of the Pinebluff church.
In Pinebluff, Sumner Abraham built a house for each of his sons and named them after provinces in Canada. His son, Albert, was a skilled carpenter and helped with the construction. Albert’s house was named Alberta and Dwight’s house was named Ontario. S. A. Ives retired in 1920, at age 81, and he died on November 7, 1925 in Pinebluff, North Carolina, at age 86, and was buried in Pinebluff Cemetery on Nov. 9, 1925. Alice died around the same time.
