John Bishop was the son of James Bishop (1626 - 1691). he was born on May 17, 1662 in New Haven. He is listed as a Proprietor of New Haven, CT, in the Year 1685 (NEGHSR, vol. 1, pp. 157–8). He married Abigail Willet (1660-1725) from Hartford on 1690 in Hartford, CT. They first lived in Hartford but briefly moved to New Haven around 1709. John died in 1710 in Hartford and Abigail died on 1725 in Hartford. John and Abigail had 11 children, all but the last two born in Hartford:
1. Nathaniel, born on Mar. 15, 1691, died young.
2. Abigail, born on June 5, 1692, died in 1709.
3. John, born on Nov. 1, 1693, moved to Coventry, CT, died on Nov. 7, 1773 in Bolton, CT.
4. Nathaniel, born on Oct. 1, 1695, died in 1743.
5. Willet, born on Oct. 17, 1697, died in 1749 in Milford, CT. He married Elizabeth Studevant (1713-1758) on Mar. 17, 1729* in New Haven. They had three children: John (1730-1800), David (1732-), Sarah (1736-1806).
6. James, born on Feb. 17, 1699, died 1780. He married Elizabeth Clinton (1703-1760) on Jan. 20,1725/26* in New Haven. They had eleven children: Abigail (1726), Sarah (1729), Abigail (1731-), Jemina (1733-1793), Sybil (1735-1744), Highly Hia (1737-), Dinah (1739-), Rebecca (1741-), James (1744-), Elizabeth (1746-), Nathaniel (1749-1752).
7. Thomas, born on Dec. 10, 1701, died young.
8. Jeremiah, born on Nov. 13, 1703, married Martha in 1730. They had eight children: Jeremiah (1731-), Martha (1735-), Joel (1743-1800), Rhoda (1748-), Elezar (1749-1811), Benjamin (1750-), James (1751-), Seth (1754-).
9. Sarah, born on Nov. 19, 1705, died April 24, 1761 in Guilford, CT. She married Wait Hotchkiss (1704-1778) from Guildford, CT on Nov. 2, 1731 in Guilford. They had four children, all born in Guildford: Wait (1733-1799), Lois (1735-1818), Sarah (1738-1746), Selah (1742-).
10. Dinah, born on Mar. 1708, died Oct. 4, 1751 in New Haven. She married Moses Clark (1705-1738) from New Haven on Feb 25, 1726. Moses and Dinah had four children, all born in New Haven: Joel (1728-1776), Lucy (1730-), Timothy (1732-1812), Moses (1735-). After Moses died she married Isreal Dayton (1708-) on Jan. 27, 1737 in New Haven.
11. Ebenezer, born on July 29, 1710, died 1778 in Woodbridge, CT. He married Elizabeth Hotchkiss on Aug. 11, 1742* in New Haven. Later he married Elizabeth Johnson Turner, widow of Turner. He served in the French and Indian War under Capt. Hitchcock in the Sixth Company from New Haven 1758, along with Jeremiah Ives.
I am really trying to find some illustrations, documents, sermons, etc. for the Rev. John Bishop. You have many of the descendants here but not him. Do you have any further information?
