James Bishop was the son of John Bishop (1662 - 1710). He was born on Feb. 17, 1699* in New Haven and married Elizabeth Clinton on Jan. 20, 1725/26* in New Haven. She was born about 1703 and died on May 22, 1760 and is buried in North Haven. They moved to Farmington, CT after their children were born. He then married Hannah who died on Nov., 10, 1773 and is buried in North Haven. Then on Feb. 23, 1774*, he married Mary Wheaton, the widow of Joseph Moulthrop. She died on Oct. 13, 1776 and is buried in North Haven. James died on July 15, 1780* in Farmington. James and Elizabeth had eight children, all born in New Haven:
1. Abigail, born Jan. 31, 1726/7*, died young.
2. Sarah, born April 23, 1729* died young.
3. Abigail, born Sept. 4, 1731*, married James Humiston (1727-1812) on Dec. 11, 1760* in New Haven. They had one child Caleb (1762-1842).
4. Jemina, born July 22, 1733*, died Feb 11, 1793*, married James Bradley (1729-1813) about 1754/55. They had five children, all born in Farmington, CT: Nathaniel (1755-), Jemina (1758-), Ira (1760-1766), Sarah (1767-), Hila (1775-1863). After Jemina died, James married Abigail Ives on Jan, 25, 1795 and they had one child.
5. Sybil, born Aug. 31, 1735*, died Aug. 5, 1744* and is buried in North Haven..
6. Hila, born July 20, 1737*, married David Thorpe (1734-1811) on Mar. 2, 1757* in New Haven. They had ten children, all born in North Haven: Sybil (1757-1826), Moses (1760-1761), Sarah (1762-1837), Eli (1765-1790), David (1767-1840), James (1770-1826), Thomas (1772-), Uri Bishop (1776-), Caleb (1780-), Abraham (1783-).
7. Dinah, born Oct. 7, 1739*, married Amos Alling (1734-1825) ofSpringfield. Amos and Sarah were listed in the 1790 Census for W. Springfield. They had eight children, all born in New Haven: Bishop (1760-), Jemina (1762-), Mabel (1765), Abigail (1768-), Issac (1771-1776), Enos (1773-), Mary (1776), Issac (1778). Issac and Mary died within 6 days of each other (Oct. 13 and Oct. 19).
8. Rebecca, born June 12, 1741*, died Oct. 24, 1803, Southington, CT. She married Josiah Andrews of Farmington on Jan. 6, 1762* in Southington, CT. They had five children, all born in Southington: More (1762-1785), Ruth (1762-), Zeriah (1764-), Lois (1766-1835), Josiah Bishop (1775-1853).
9. James, born July 12, 1744*, married Hannah Dickerman on Mar. 15, 1768* in North Haven. They had two children, both born in North Haven: Lois (1769-), Lucy (1777-1826).
10. Elizabeth, born 1746, married Samuel Heaton on Oct. 9, 1765*.
11. Nathaniel, born 1749, died Sept. 13, 1752* and is buried in North Haven..
