This post begins a brief series on Peck family genealogy. Ruth Peck married Jonathan Atwater in New Haven on Wednesday, June 1, 1681 (see Jonathan Atwater for their life together. Their daughter, Ruth Atwater, married Samuel Ives on Jan. 3, 1706. Ruth Peck (senior) died in New Haven on June 3, 1726. Ruth Peck is the daughter of Jeremiah and Joanna (Ketchell) Peck who came to Connecticut from London, England. What follows is the life of her father, Jeremiah, and then, in subsequent posts, a few of his ancestors going back to William Peck (1575 - 1604).
Jeremiah Peck was the son of William Peck (1604 - 1694). He was born in London about 1623 and came to New Haven with his father, William, and brother, John in 1638, along with Eaton and Davenport on the Hector. He married Jonna Ketchell (-1711) on Nov. 12, 1656. They moved frequently within Connecticut, probably serving different churches; Guilford 1656-1660, New Haven 1660-1661, Saybrook 1661-1667, Newark 1667-1674, Elizabeth 1674-1678, Greenwich, 1678-1689, Waterbury,1689-1699. He died in Waterbury on June 7, 1699. Jeremiah and Joanna had six children:
1. Samuel, born Jan. 18, 1659 (Guildford Vitals), died April 28, 1746 in Greenwich, He married Ruth Ferris (1659-1745 on Nov. 27, 1686 in Greenwich and they had nine children, all born in Greenwich: Samuel (1688-1733), Jeremiah (1690-1765), Joseph (1692-1761), David (1694-1756), Nathaniel (1697-1765), Elipihet (1699-1776), Theophilus (1702-1783), Peter (1704-1759), Robert (1706-1749). His son Nathaniel married Mary (Yale) Pardee (1700-) on Dec. 4, 1722.
2. Ruth, born April 3, 1661* in New Haven, died June 3, 1726 in New Haven, married Jonathan Atwater on June 1, 1681. They had eleven children: Joshua (1681), David (1683-1727), Jeremiah (1684-1732), Mary (1686-1753), Ruth (1688-1758), Jonathan (1690-1760), Lydia (1693-1694), Joseph (1694-1766), Stephen (1696-1704), Damaris (1698-1762), Lydia (1701-1708).
3. Caleb, born 1663 in Saybrook - died young.
4. Anna, born 1665 in Saybrook, died May 23, 1718 in Farmington, CT, married Thomas Stanley on 1690.
5. Jeremiah, 1667 in Newark, died 1752 in Waterbury, married Rachel Richards (1683-) on June 14, 1704 in Waterbury. They had nine children, all born in Waterbury, CT: Joanna (1705-), Jeremiah (1706-1750), Rachel (1709-1785), Anna (1713-), Mary (1715-1753), Phebe (1716-), Ruth (1718-1750), Esther (1721-), Martha (1725-).
6. Joshua, born 1673 in Newark, died Feb, 14, 1736.
