Here is a list of the Ives family and the families that married into the Ives family over the generations that are covered in this genealogy. It includes how they got to the US and the earliest known ancestor in England. Details about these familes will be covered in upcoming posts.
Captain William Ives was born in 1607, probably in Norfolk, England, and arrived in Boston 1635 on ship Truelove. He was a member of St. Stephens Parish on Coleman St. in London before coming to New England. He first lived in Watertown. MA. On March 30, 1638 he left Boston with Gov. Eaton and others and was a founder of New Haven on April 15, 1638.
Abraham Dickerman was born on 1634 in England, likely Little Missenden, Buckinghamshire, and arrived in Boston with his parents from England around 1636-1637. He came to New Haven in 1658 shortly after marrying Mary Cooper of New Haven, the daughter of John. It is claimed by some that his sister (or half sister), Hannah, married William Ives on June 14, 1639 but the evidence is not clear. His parents were Thomas Dickerman and Ellen Whittington married in Little Missiden, Buckinghamshire, England. Thomas and Ellen stayed in the Boston area and Thomas died in Dorchester, MA in 1657.
Captain Thomas Yale was born in 1616 in Plas Grono or Chester, England, and died in New Haven on March 27, 1683. Thomas Yale came to Boston in 1637 with his stepfather, Gov. Eaton, and others aboard the Hector. His ancestor nine generations back is Llewelyn ap Cynrik, born in Wales about 1300. Through his grandmother, Frances (Lloyd) Yale, his ancestors include Henry I (1068-1135) King of England, Walter Giffard, Lord of Longueville in Normandy and a cousin and companion of William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, Richard de Clare, Earl of Hertford who was a Magna Charta Surety in 1215 and other English nobles.
Anne Lloyd (mother of Thomas Yale), born about 1590, married Theophilus Eaton, after her first husband, also Thomas Yale, died in 1619, She was the daughter of George Lloyd, Bishop of Chester and Anne (Wilkinson) Lloyd. George’s family goes back to King John (1167-1216). Anne and Francis are not directly related.
David Atwater was born in 1615 and baptized in Royton in Lenham, Kent, England, on Sunday, October 8, 1615, and died in New Haven on October 5, 1692. David Atwater arrived in Boston on June 26, 1637 on the Hector, then on to New Haven in 1638. His ancestor six generations back is Thomas Atwater, also of Roynton, was born before 1450 and died in 1484.
John Cooper was born on July 22, 1610 in London, England, the son of Thomas (or Stephen). John Cooper came to Boston in 1637 on the Hector, before going to New Haven in 1638 The Hundred Rolls, A. D. 1273, contain the names of Alan le Cupere of Cambridgeshire, Henry le Cupper of County Motts, and Richard le Cupare of Oxfordshire.
Nathaniel Turner (1600-1646) from England with Governor Winthrop, likely on his ship the Arbella, and arrived in Lynn, MA in 1630 and then went to New Haven in 1638. He died at sea on 1646. His parents are not known.
William Peck (1604-1694) came from London, England to Boston in 1637 aboard the Hector. He then went to New Haven in 1638 as a founder. His father, William, was born in 1575 in Knoston, Colchester, England.
Thomas Smith was born about 1634 in England. He came to East Haven and married Elizabeth Patterson from New Haven (1644-1727*) in 1662. His father, Charles was born in 1610 and came from Lowescroft, Suffolk, England.
William Bassett was born in England, and came to New Haven by 1643.
Nicholas Street was baptized on Jan 29, 1603 in Bridgewater, Somerset, England. He first came to Taunton, MA around 1638 and then to New Haven some time between 1640 and 1659. His father, Nicholas, was also born in Bridgewater, about 1575.
Robert Day was born in 1604 and immigrated to Boston in 1634 with his wife Mary. He sailed on the Elizabeth from Ipswich, England and first settled in Cambridge, MA. By 1639 he moved to Hartford, CT as a first settler. His family came from Wales.
Henry Humiston was born in 1626 in England. He came to New Haven after 1639 and first appears in the New Haven Court records in 1644 at age 18. His father, William, was born about 1580 in England and remained there.
James Bishop was born in 1625 in Kingston Parrish, Surrey, England. He came in New Haven after 1639 and first appears in the records in 1644. His father, Thomas, was born in 1593 in Kinston Parrish.
Robert Dunbar was born around 1630-1634, probably in Morayshire, Scotland. He was likely taken prisoner by Cromwell and his Puritan army in either the Battle of Dunbar in 1650 or Worcester in 1653. He was brought to New England as a servant of Joshua Foote first working in Boston and Braintree and then arriving in Hingham, MA around 1655 with his wife Rose. His father is said to be Ninian Dunbar born in Scotland in 1575
Richard Rich was born about 1632 -1635 in Dover Point, NH and was a mariner. He married Sarah Roberts on Feb. 24, 1670 in Dover Point, NH. She was born 1643 in Dover Point, the daughter of Thomas Roberts, first governor of Dover Point. On August 23, 1681 Richard was admitted as a townsman of Eastham, on Cape Cod.
William Sharp was probably born in England, and died in May, 1679 in Northampton Co, VA in the Lot N3 area. There is no information on his parents.
Thomas Parker was born 1705 in England came to Virginia and granted land (519 acres) in Northampton. NC on Jan, 21, 1756. There is no information on his parents.
Jessie A. Powell and Elizabeth Lee (Powell) were the parents of William Henry Powell. They were in North Carolina in the late 1700s and little is known for certain about them but their ancestors probably came from England.
