Painting of a Roof Ventilator Cap #2, New Orleans

Many homes in New Orleans have tin roofs and ventilator caps such as the one shown below. This is the second in a series of paintings of New Orleans architectural details. Below is a 16" x 20" acrylic painting. I left the canvas blank behind the ventilator cap and focused in on the the details of the cap. 

I now an artist with the Arts Council of New Orleans and particpate in their monthy art market. These markets occur generally on the last Saturday at Palmer Park in New Orleans, at the corner of S. Carrolton and S. Claiborne. Saturday March 30 is the next market and I will have a booth and offer paintings for sale. Since I arrived back in my hometown, I have been painting a variety of themes related to the city. The April market is held on April 20 because of jazz fest the follwing week.

I now an artist with the Arts Council of New Orleans and participate in their monthy art market. These markets occur generally on the last Saturday at Palmer Park in New Orleans, at the corner of S. Carrolton and S. Claiborne. Saturday March 30 is the next market and I will have a booth and offer paintings for sale. Since I arrived back in my hometown, I have been painting a variety of themes related to the city. The April market is held on April 20 because of jazz fest the following week.  Below is my booth for the February market. 

Painting of LA 31 Beer Sign, New Orleans

Here is a 16" x 20" acryiic painting of a LA 31 beer sign at Mojitos, a good place for live music, in the Marigny. LA 31 biere noire is one of my favorites and the biere pale version is wonderful also.

Painting of Blues at BMC, New Orleans - Ed Wills

Here is a portrait of Ed Wills, of Blues4Sale, playing blues at the BMC (aka Balcony Music Club) on Decatur Street. I have seen him a number of times at his regular Wednesday night BMC gig and have his CD. Here is YouTube video of Ed Wills at BMC. The acrylic painting is in a square 20” x 20” format. I should add that I think Ed is the best blues player in New Orleans and always enjoy him and his band. 

Painting of Water Lilies, City Park New Orleans

Here is a 16" x 20" acrylic painting of water lilies in the pond in City Park, New Orleans, in front of the NOMA. The flower is a little washed in the photo but not in the actual painting.

Photos of Zydeco and Cajun Musicians in South Louisiana

The weekend before New Years I went out west to take in some Zydeco and Cajun music and dancing. I saw Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys doing a mix of Cajun and Zydeco at Miller's Zydeco Hall of Fame in Lawtel, LA. I also saw several Zydeco bands: Corey Ledet abnd his Zydeco band and Lil Pookie and the Zydeco Senasation at Miller's on Friday at the same event as Steve Riley, Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band at the Opelousas Mayor's Gala on Sauturday, and Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie at Whiskey Landing in Henderson, LA on Sunday. I also went to the Cajun music jam at the Savoy Music Center which happens every Saturday morning in in Savoy LA and on Sunday saw Forest Huval and Al Berard at MeGee's Landing in Henerseon, LA. They are shown in order of mention except for Geno where it was too crowded and dark to take pictures but here is an earlier photo of him at a festival in New Orleans. 

 

Here is what I found around this time in 2011: Taking in Zydeco Music in Opelousas Louisiana and More and Taking in Cajun Music in the Lafayette Louisiana Area. It is a great area for music anytime. Here are the 2012 pictueres.

                                 

Photos of Chicot Sate Park, Louisiana

Southern Louisiana is a beautifual place. with several state parks for camping, canoing, and walking. Here are pcitures of Chicot State Park which has woodss for walking and swamps for canoeing and fishing, including a long fishing pier. there are cabions for rent an dwe plan to return.  

                                 










 

Photos of the Atchafalya Basin in Louisiana

The Atchafalya Basin is a huge swamp in Louisiana that might become the future home of the Mississippi River according to some. It is a beautifual place. with several state parks for camping, canoing, and walking inlcuding Lake Fausse Pointe. Here are pictures of the swamp and several music venues alongside it including McGeee's Landing where we also had some seafood harvested from the swamp including basin catfish.
