This is the twelfth in a series of posts covering Cape Town and the surrounding Western Cape region. Simon’s Town is on the same peninsula as the Cape of Good Hope. Boulder’s Beach in Simon’s Town is an excellent spot to see the African Penguin. Fisk Hoek has colorful beach huts and another good beach.
This is the eleventh in a series of posts covering Cape Town and the surrounding Western Cape region. South of the city lies the Cape of Good Hope region. It is the most southwest part of Africa. There are many wild baboons and ostriches, as well as great beaches for surfing.
This is the tenth in a series of posts covering Cape Town and the surrounding Western Cape region. Located not far from the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens is the Constantia wine region. It is the closet wine country to Cape Town. I will cover the more well known Stellenbosch and Franschhoek area later. Constantia is the oldest wine region and was established in 1685. The Klien Constantia winery is famous for its sweet wine favored by Napoleon, Jane Austin and others of their day. Many of these wineries serve lunch. The last row shows part of our lunch and the view from our table.
This is the ninth in a series of posts covering Cape Town and the surrounding Western Cape region. The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are located south of the city on the inland side. The gardens were established in 1657 by the Dutch. There are many garden walks and examples of plants from all over the country. They have music concerts and we were treated to the sounds of one as we walked around.

There is a wide beach and views up to the mountain range known as the Twelve Apostles that runs off Table Mountain. Many restaurants line the beach. he first picture shows the area from the top of Table Mountain.
This is the seventh in a series of posts covering Cape Town and the surrounding Western Cape region. Here we move away form the urban to the beautiful mountain hovering over the city. It has appeared in many of the posts I have done prior to this one. Now you get the reverse view. You can quickly get isolated on the top. There are often clouds that quickly move in and cover the top. You can either hike up or take the cable car that you can see in the first picture. You can see the mountain from a long way off in many directions. There are two ground shots toward the end of this series.

The Waterfront is also where you get the ferry to Robben Island where political prisoners such as Nelson Mandela were held during Apartheid. It is now a museum. Tours are conducted by former prisoners and you can learn of the difficulties of the time. It is quite a contrast to the Waterfront but South Africa is a country of many contrasts. The cell with mat and other things was where Mandela was held. The cemetery served a former leper colony on the island. The boat is the one that takes you there from the waterfront area.

It was redeveloped not long along into shops and restaurants and is a mostly tourist area adjunct to the working port. There are street musicians and great views back to the city and Table Mountain.
This is the fourth in a series of posts covering Cape Town and the surrounding Western Cape region. I present images from the Waterkant. It is adjacent to Bo-Kaap but the original inhabitants, mostly descendents of freed slaves, where not as fortunate as those in Bo-Kaap and were removed in the 1950s. It has now become a very trendy area in the past 15 years given the central location and beautiful older homes. There are many small hotels and homes for travelers to rent.
