Taken 2005 in Erice, Sicily. It is an ancient town on a high hill overlooking Trapani, a major port. "ancient Eryce was a prosperous Elimi city, Eryx, famous for its temple to a fertility goddess, Astarte, later identified with Venus and worshipped by the Romans. The city owes its name to Eryx, mythical ruler of the Elimi. Hercules and Aeneas are also associated with ancient Erice."
What a beautiful place! It doesn't take much of a stretch to see why the town figured that a temple would seal the deal to attract a goddess ... I wonder, did she come?

Not sure about her arrival. The town is on top of very steep hill that is greener than the surrounding dry plains so perhaps she did come. Bill
