This blog offers some of my art and photography. Most items are for sale. It also provides occasional reviews of art events, comments on art and photography on the web, and other related stuff I find to share.
Taken March 2005. The second picture from the left is the Columns Hotel on St. Charles Ave. My grandmother ran this place in the early 1950s and I used to often visit her there as a child. There was a winding staircase that had a stain glass sky light. Both are still there. The Columns was the setting for the interior shots in the Louis Malle move, "Pretty Baby." The bar scence on the right is also form the hotel. I have stayed at the Columns several times in recent years. It has great bar with live music some nights. The street car photo was taken in front of the Columns. The street car was one of my main paths to exploring the city in the 50s. I hope it is rebuilt soon.
Taken March 2005 prior to Katrina. The first two on the left were taken at the lake front and the places no longer exist. The second from the left is the front of Brunning's where we used to go for seafood in the 50s. It was closed by a prior hurricane and now the shell is completely gone. The flowers were at the botanical garden in City Park which I think was mostly spared. The art museum there is reopenned and has some wonderful exhibits I have attended. Some are made possible through an affiliation with the French government. The bottles are in the French quarter as are the remaining pictures.
Here are my New Orleans 2005 restaurant picks from that trip.
Taken January 2006. Starting from the left the first two are at the Getty Museum, then Santa Monica Pier, potatoes at the Farmer's Market, breakfast at Doughboys, and the last two at the Malibu Pier.
