I was googling "CDW, customer community," when I came across this blog entry and I almost fell out of my chair. I am intrigued by the term, Extranet 2.0. Forgive me for asking a very fundamental question, but I would like to understand how private online communities relate to the concept of Extranet. Would you very kindly enlighten me on this? Also if you could recommend some resources so that I can read up on the subject, I would greatly appreciate it.

Misako thanks for your interest. As the wikipedia says, "An extranet is a private network that uses Internet protocols, network connectivity, and possibly the public telecommunication system to securely share part of an organization's information or operations with suppliers, vendors, partners, customers or other businesses." The Communispace effort is an example of this. The wikipedia entry provides a useful introduction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extranet
