Portals and KM: Third Anniversary

Tomorrow I start my fourth year with this blog. On May 2, 2004 I did my first posts. There were three, Is KM the Killer App for Portals?, Some good articles on blogs and blogs on blogs, and Is RSS TNBT? I think the last one is now answered yes as RSS is everywhere and not just with blogs. Blogs are also everywhere and in many niche business markets such as real estate and sports. KM may be a killer app for portals but web 2.0 tools like blogs, wikis, and tagging are going to change intranets forever so they may not look or act like the enterprise portals that I was describing.

Two people encouraged me to start a blog, Cesar Brea and Jack Vinson and they remain active boggers. I also attended Dave Winer's sessions at the Berkman Center. Dave has gone but the sessions continue. Writing an article on blogs for Portals Magazine is what got we started with this blog. Writing about web 2.0 inside and out side the firewall remains the core of what I cover during the week. Now I am also part of the group blog, Fast Forward, on enteprise 2.0.

Some of my favorite posts are under Previous Posts in the right column. A few of the ones that were most fun to do include: Slow Cooked Ribs and Cajun Music that got me started on the food and music on weekends and Sunday with Ray Charles that got me started on music and non-work topics in the first place. Then there was Remembering Elvis and Car Games about my childhood. I hope to write more on this topic in the coming year on the weekends. I still get responses to some of the old posts such as the two part series on the Newport Jazz Festival in 1968 and 1969. I am posting a long response to these two this coming weekend.

I have recently started three new blogs. Two are on my family history, Ives Family History Blog and Sharp Family in NC. I have written about them already on this blog and I am very pleased to have meet a number of new people as a result of these blogs. I just started a new one, Art and Photography Blog, to share my experiences getting re-started in art. I will write more about it soon.

Where does the time go? It's funny that so many of us are at this point of reflection at the same time. Congrats on the new art & photography blog - I like the drawings very much, reminiscent of Patrick Caulfield for me. I'll pop back in there again when I can.

Mick - Thanks for your comment. I have enjoyed your art blog - http://mickmathersartblog.blogspot.com/

WOW! Time flies when you are having fun, eh, Bill? Excellent stuff! Congratulations on your third blogversary! I must say that although lately I may not have been linking to some of your weblog posts I *still* enjoy reading through quite a bit for that refreshing and engaging KM views that you have been sharing all along. There are actually a few weblog articles that I would want to reference and I guess I will be doing so very soon, but in the mean time, may I wish you many many more years of fruitful weblogging and that we all get to enjoy them! Let's go for another three years, and then another three and another three ... Happy blogversary, Bill!

Mick and Luis - Thanks for your kind comments. I have certainly enjoyed our exchanges through our blogs and other channels. Bill
