Trimergent- Build Your Own Initiative Specific Portal Through Search
Here is an interesting idea. Build a desktop portal through search using a new tool, Trimergent. A nice thing is that you can create a custom desktop for a project team and then share it with others. You can have as many desktops as projects and archive them for future use or to serve as templates. Buzz Bruggeman of Active Words introduced me to Ashwani Sirohi who showed me a bit on how Trimergent works and it seems quite useful. You identify and aggregate content from a variety of sources to meet specific goals. They refer to the outcome as Personal Information Networks (PIN) and good security is also included.
Another nice aspect of PINs versus enterprise portals is that they are in control of the user, like blogs. This is another example of the bottom-up user control trend in software. It must have some of the old school IT guys going nuts. But the new school ones will recognize that putting tools like this in the hands of users and not fighting the trend can actually make their job easier and their budgets more manageable.
It addition to sharing your initiative specific search results with colleagues, they can comment on what you found and you can also do the same to their efforts. Here is another example of the recognition and movement toward better participation and collaboration through the newer entries in the enterprise software area.
Take a look.
