The Boston Wikipedians developed a formal bid to host Wikimania 2006, the second international Wikimedia conference, sometime next summer. Here is a wiki post on the Boston wikimania effort. Sam Klein is playing a lead role in this effort. The first wikimania program was in Germany and had large number of sessions and international attendees. I just learned that Boston won, beating out Toronto which was the other finalist. More details to follow.
