Burst! Media Sells Advertising on Blogs and Bacon’s to Track Blogs

The announcement that Burst! Media has started to sell advertising on blogs combined with Bacon's Information notice that they will begin monitoring the most reputable online news blogs are further evidence that the camel of commercialism has slid not only its nose under the blog tent but has shimmied most of the way in. BURST! claims to reach 1 in 4 people online and is according to ComScore among to the 30 largest online media properties in terms of unique visitors and reach. Blogs are clearly in the crosshairs of those for whom every visitor and every page view is an advertising opportunity.

Bacon’s recognizes that many news stories either begin or develop in blogs. Bacon's tracking will include: “identification of the blogs, the messages they contain and the frequency with which client-relevant information shows up on the blogs.” This give those who seek to influence the new media of blogs a means for media contact management, press material distribution, campaign monitoring and evaluation. Bloggers can look for floods of press releases and media contacts in their inboxes forthwith. Can you hardly wait. -- Amanda Watlington, guest blogger for vacationing Bill Ives
