Is the Future of Media in the Blog? David Kirkpatrick
Thanks to both Mark Bonchek and Cesar Brea for sending me another interesting article on blogs versus traditional media. In a recent article in Fortune.com. To Slog or to Blog: Is the Future of Media in the Blog?, David Kirkpatrick points on ways that bloggers are replacing the commercial media. He writes:
“If you wanted to find out what was happening on the street and inside the campaigns during Tuesday's election, it was more useful to spend time on blog sites like Talking Points Memo (for a Democratic view) or GoDubya.com (for a Republican) than to read boring wire stories…It was like watching the news actually happen, instead of just reading about it.”
David goes on: “The latest version of MyYahoo! allows its users to create custom home pages that automatically bring up headlines from any blogs you select, using a technology called RSS (Really Simple Syndication). The software can also draw in stories from commercial sites, including Fortune's.”
This creates the ability to customize your own news publication and continue to revise it everyday if you want. Like 72% of avid newspaper readers recently polled I go to the internet almost daily of news. Like 58% of these same avid newspaper readers I do not go to the print media on a daily basis. I only get the Sunday paper in real paper. What do you do? Has there been a change in the past few years?
