Starting Your Business and Your Business Blog

Thanks to Kathleen Gilroy who references a transcript about Guy Kawasaki's new book The Art of the Start (to be published in early September. As she says, in this transcript, he talks about five big ideas that should inform starting a business. They are also very useful to consider when starting a blog to support your business. Here are the first two taken from Guy’s work.

“Lesson One: Make Meaning

Let's analyze the types of meaning - I think there are principally four types:

One is to make the world a better place by a product or a service.
The second is to increase the quality of life of people.
The third is to right something that is wrong, to fix something.
The fourth is to prevent the end of something good.

Lesson Two: Make a Mantra – which is a short version of your mission statement.”

I think one or more of these four meanings should also apply to your business blog. I also feel that a blog should have a statement of purpose (which articulates your intended meanings) and it would be useful to think of a shorter version of this (or your mantra), as well.
