Business Blog Links: Part One - Jessica Baumgart
Jessica Baumgart of Harvard University's Office of News and Public Affairs provided some useful resources on business use of blogs after a discussion at the last Berkman blog meeting. There is a lot so I divided it into two posts.
Some interesting links include:
Blogwise's list of keywords beginning with B lots of business-related blogs here, corporate-related blogs, business blogs.
This led to several discoveries including:
Debbie Weil’s blog - "Are Weblogs really the new new thing? Will they supplant static Web sites? Can you blog for business? I'll unravel some of these questions." Debbie publishes the Wordbiz Report on use of web based business communication. You can submit questions on using blogs for business ay her blog.
View from the Isle from Larix Consulting run by Tris Huseey, a ten-year veteran of the web design and development world. Here is a link to an article she wrote on business blogging.
Textura Design blog run by this firm, started as a group of artists exploring art and technology. Over the years, our work expanded to include web design for clients and the development of new consumer products. Sample post: “Blog v. Message Board I was asked recently, "what's the difference between a message board and a blog?" To respond, I found a post by Common Craft that summarizes the differences and provides a grid. The simple explanation is that a blog is centralized and has an voice. A message board is decentralized with a community voice. Now a blog can have multiple voices and point to a message board for communites, but that's the basic difference.”
Common Craft has other good stuff. Here is their Perfect Corporate Weblog Elevator Pitch Competition and Professional Weblogs Described to a Friend. I have posted on them before.
CoolBusinessIdeas has a blog to go along with their “free, monthly business newsletter about new business ideas, opportunities and innovations from around the world.”
Zero to Network, a business networking blog by Stephen Harris which includes a link to “Blogging is the Ultimate Social Software” by Peter Caputa on the Socialsoftwarewebblog.
Small Business Blog which has a lot of resources for small businesses including their explanation of blogs.
