They Talk Funny Up There: Boston vs. New York

People from Boston and New York love to dislike each other’s cities, sports teams, food, and all other aspects. For example, there is a restaurant in Salem, Massachusetts that is one of the few in New England that lists Manhattan Clam Chowder on its menu. However, in the price column it says that if you want this item you have to take US Highway 95 South (to New York). Manhattan Clam Chowder for those you do not know this little known item is a watery tomato based substance not unlike the what is left when you are soaking pots after a meal. This year the rival US political parties, Democrats and Republicans, have selected the two cities as the sites for their conventions with bloggers at each.

A good friend, who writes a blog Random Thoughts under the name Russell Nod, grew up in New York and then moved to the Boston area. He explores both sides of this rivalry in an article,” They Talk Funny Up There,” that was originally written for the Amherst (MA) Gazette.
